Thermal Imaging

Thermal Imaging technology in the modern era was originally developed for military applications in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  The first Navy Thermal Imaging applications were developed in the 70’s and the technology and uses are still progressing today.

Infrared light lies between the microwave and visible portions of the electromagnetic spectrum.  “Near infrared” light is the closest wavelength to visible light and “far infrared” is closer to the microwave area of the microwave area of the spectrum.

Slowly but steadily, infrared technology has been establishing itself within material trysting, firefighting, medical, gas detection, law enforcement, and other industries and becoming an industry itself.

Thermal Imaging Cameras are heat sensing and measuring devices capable of transferring measurements into visible images.

Richey Restoration uses both Flir and Fluke brands of Thermal Imaging Cameras.  We have found them to be very beneficial in the Restoration field in the ability to find a number of problem areas in homes such as:

  • Electrical short circuits in walls and breaker boxes
  • Air leaks in doors and windows
  • Water and moisture leaks from roof leaks, windows, in crawlspaces, plumbing leaks, just to name a few.

It should be noted that Thermal Imaging Cameras are used with other moisture detection equipment to get a full assessment of water or moisture leaks.
