AIRBORNE AND BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS:

Pathogens are disease-causing agents, such as viruses, bacteria and fungi and can be spread through blood, body fluids, sewage, and even through the air.  These pathogens can include but are not limited to hepatitis, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB).  Not all pathogens are spread through bloodborne and airborne exposures.

WATER AND SEWAGE

Water damage may occur from various sources where contamination is categorized by levels according to the water source.

Category 1 “Clean Water” – Drinkable or non-contaminate water source such as      broken plumbing supply lines, tub or sink overflow.

Category 2 “Gray Water” – Contains chemicals & pollutants which can cause           sickness & carry nutrients for microorganisms from sources such as washing          machine or dishwasher overflow, broken fish aquariums, punctured water beds or   broken toilet tanks.

Category 3 “Black Water” - Grossly unsanitary and contains pathogenic agents         & organic matter from sources such as toilet overflow, sewage, sea water, rising           river or ground water caused by flooding.

METHAMPHETAMINE LAB CLEAN-UP:

Meth is often made in makeshift laboratories, such as rented housing, basements or hotel rooms.  A number of steps are needed during the process of “cooking” meth and hazardous chemicals can be formed.

As a result of meth “cooking,” many chemicals may contaminate the property.  Some household materials may actually absorb the chemicals.  For example: carpeting, wallboard, ceiling tile or fabric may soak-up the chemicals. furniture, draperies and/or clothing may soak up chemical vapors and can become contaminated.  Soil or ground water may become contaminated if chemicals are dumped in the septic system or on the ground.

It is our belief the safest way to clean-up a former meth lab is to hire environmental professionals that are trained in hazardous substance removal and clean up.  Owners who decide to clean properties on their own should be aware that household building materials and furniture may absorb contaminants and release harmful fumes.

FIRE AND SMOKE

Fire, Soot and Smoke residue removal and cleaning - Smoke from fire can cause a considerable amount of damage but did you know that cigarettes and candles produce a sooty smoke that can leave a residue on walls, ceilings and other structural surfaces as well as clothing and furnishings?  This type of residue can cause as much damage as smoke caused from fire.
